Anointed for a Purpose: Living the Meaning of Christmas

JESUS—THE ANNOINTED ONE

At Christmas, our hearts remember the extraordinary truth that Jesus—the Anointed One—stepped into our world, chosen, empowered,  and filled with the Spirit of God.

“Gabriel answered, ‘The Spirit of Holiness will fall upon you and

Almighty God will spread His shadow of power over you in a cloud of glory!

This is why the Child born to you will be Holy, and He will be called the Son of God.’”

Luke 1:35, The Passion Translation

The name Christ literally means Anointed One. Jesus, the Christ, was set apart to bring light, healing, and redemption into a weary, also dark, world.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah),

Because He has anointed Me to preach the good news to the poor.

He has sent Me to announce release (pardon, forgiveness) to the captives,

And recovery of sight to the blind,

To set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy), to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the favor of God abound greatly].” [Is 61:1, 2]

Luke 4:18-19, Amplified Bible

But here’s the miraculous wonder at the center of Christmas: His anointing didn’t end with Him. Through Christ’s life, and also through His sacrifice, we’re invited into that same sacred flow of the Holy Spirit: called, strengthened, and equipped to continue His work in everyday life.

WHAT IT REALLY MEANS TO BE ANOINTED

Being anointed isn’t just a ceremony; it’s a Divine affirmation that says, You are chosen for something holy. It means the Spirit of God rests on you—not because you’re perfect or you’ve earned it, but because He delights in you and invites you to share His grace with all the people in the world.

The anointing carries power with purpose. It’s God’s Spirit moving and flowing through you to fulfill the calling He placed in your life—whether that’s leading, teaching, encouraging, serving, creating, or simply showing love with grace and joy.

THE FLOW OF THE SPIRIT

In Scripture, oil symbolizes the flow of the Holy Spirit. When kings, priests, and prophets were anointed, oil would run down, covering them completely—a visible sign of God’s Presence overflowing upon them.

This Christmas, God is whispering an invitation: step into the flow of His Spirit. Whether for the first time or once again, pause the striving and begin receiving the anointing to:

  • Let His Spirit move freely through your words, your work, and your worship.
  • Allow His Holy anointing to restore your heart, renew your fire, and remind you that you carry the Presence of King Jesus.

ANOINTED FOR A CALLING

The anointing doesn’t end in comfort—it leads to calling, for commission. Just as Jesus was anointed to “proclaim good news to the poor”, you are also anointed for a mission that’s uniquely yours.

Your calling might unfold in your workplace, your family, your ministry, or a vision stirring quietly in your heart. The Same Holy Spirit that empowered Christ empowers you today to act with grace, courage, boldness, and compassion.

This Christmas, ask yourself:

  1. Where is God calling me to be His hands and voice?
  2. What part of my life needs to be reconsecrated to Him?
  3. Am I relying on His Spirit or just my own strength?

FROM CHRISTMAS TO COMMISSION: WALKING IN JESUS’ PRESENCE DAILY

Christmas isn’t only a story about a child in a manger—it’s a living reminder that the Anointed One came to fill, anoint us with His Same Holy Spirit, and send us into the world with His love and purpose.

You are anointed to carry His presence, to share His love, and to walk boldly in your Divine calling.

We wish this Christmas that you may not only celebrate Jesus’ birth, but also your rebirth into His anointed purpose.
